How to Fix your Clay Soil
Many of us have hardpan clay soil, or even soil consisting of up to 85% rocks. The best and most organic way to break down the clay and rocks, is to add Malibu Compost's Bu's Blend Biodynamic Compost to the top of your soil and water it in. Add anywhere from 1/2" to 1" depending on how hardpan it is. Then sprinkle 1/16" of an inch every 6 weeks. You will be surprised at how quickly this helps to change your soil structure. The more you add in the beginning the quicker it will change.
How do we know if a compost is good?
When it is a 70% chocolate cocoa brown color, not black.
When it doesn't smell bad, but smells of earth.
When there is nothing that you can see in it that is detectable, but rather everything is fully composted.
How to Fix your Sandy Soil
Some of us have sandy soil that has low water retention and little fertility. The best and most organic way to change this soil structure, is to add Malibu Compost's Bu's Blend Biodynamic Compost to the top of your soil and water it in. This added organic matter implemented into your sandy soil will build the soil structure and its ability to hold on to water.
How much compost do we need?
Start with an inch on top of your soil around each of your plants.
Then sprinkle 1/16th of an inch every month and you will see a great change.
